Pinnacle Peak

Great weekend! We had a great Stake Conference last night and this morning, and then we took a hike up Pinnacle Peak. It was a gorgeous day. The desert was so green and in bloom after all the rain we have had. I guess this is why we live in Arizona!

Updated House Progress

So, I don't necessarily want to share these but lots have been asking for them, so the masses win! Soon, I hope the house will be in a better state to really show off the pictures! Each day it looks better and better. Now, I just need visitors! (and I guess I should officially move in as well) Thanks again Mom & Dad for all of your help for getting me as far as I have in such a short time period - especially since I have been out of town for most of it!!

House Progress

I found out about a week ago that the final walk-thru on my house is going to be September 18th. It's coming so fast! Here are some pictures to show you some of the progress. They are about a week old, but not much has changed. They painted the interior (it's now a pale brown/taupe color) and they painted the outside center entryway tower and front window pop-out the light cream color.

My selections. The larger stone is the granite for the kitchen, the smaller is marble for the master bathroom. I put tile throughout the house in all areas but the bedrooms and put the carpet to the right of the tile in the bedroom.

More to come! I'm hoping when I get back from my trip this week that the cabinets will be installed. Once more progress is made, I'll post some more.

California Adventure

We had a great time in California with the Parker, Ryan and Kate. Beach, Beach, Disneyland, Beach, California Adventure, swimming, and picnic with the Zinkes and Wettengels. The kids were great and even Hepa behaved himself. Parker says that collecting sea shells was his favorite part of the beach. Ryan's favorite part was destroying the turtle that we built. I think Kate's favorite part was being glamour girl and then taking a nap on the beach. Kate's Disneyland favorite was "It's a Small World" and Minnie Mouse's House. Ryan and Parker both loved the Toon Town roller coaster. California Adventure favorites included the wild mouse roller coaster and Soaring over California. On our last day, we had a picnic with Rich, Janna and Kevin, and Blake and Dana and their kids. It was a great way to end our week of fun. The kids had a ball playing together as Rich organized impromptu games and races for them (who would have guessed?) Thanks kids for the fun week!

Quick Stop at Miller Farm

On our way back from the Derby, we made a quick stop at Jen's house - the Miller Farm. To sum it up - breath taking! We hung out with her family (mostly played with her fun nephews), got a tour of the antiques and treasures they had in their house (her dad owns an auction house), and ate way too much Sunday dinner - all the food was from the farm!

There was this really cool old truck. Too bad it didn't work but we sure had fun admiring it!

This cow had to be in all of the pictures. And it didn't seem to like Jen very much. We were lucky it didn't ram her with his horns!

I even got to feed a calf! You think I'm ready for farm life?

Year of the Party

We had a picnic in our old Bishop's backyard. There was a 40% chance of rain but our prayers were answered and it was beautiful weather!!

Alexis' other bridesmaid is in culinary school. Although she was in Floriday, she wanted to contribute to the shower so she made these great cookies and cupcake toppers to go along with our letter & word theme. It definitely made everything look fantastic!!

Garrett's B-day

Mike I am posting this just for you!! It was a huge hit at the party and I needed the pic for the ward cook book. So I took Marnee's advice and just "threw it together".

Garrett loved us all singing Happy Birthday for about 10 seconds and then got really shy. I am not sure what this face is all about, but it is pretty funny anyway.

This cake was made by a woman in our ward. She did a fantastic job! Every other layer was alternanting between lemon and chocolate!! This was a bigger hit then the jello and rightfully so.

Saturday Fun

Marnee had a wedding and Mike and Dad were working. So lucky me! I got to spend the day with three great kids. We climbed trees, made and painted trains, made cookies, went on a bike ride, played games and had lots of fun and didn't get a bit of work done except for sweeping up the back yard and putting away the train track (with a lot of help from the boys!) Kate took a nice nap and as cute as she looked when she arrived at our house, this picture just doesn't do justice to her. I'm afraid this is a case of very serious bed head. Riley, I think you might have some serious competition from Kate in the wild hair department!. Should have taken a before and after nap picture.

Zoo Fun

Tuesday's trip to the zoo with Marnee and the kids was a fun one. It was a beautiful day--well maybe a little on the hot side in the sun, but the kids and monkeys didn't seem to mind. Kate loved the petting zoo. This goat was her favorite, she even followed it as it tried to get away from her while trying to push her out of the way with its head. Since this didn't discourage Kate, we thought it best to move her on to another goat, before this one got really upset.

Lion King

At the end of January, we took Parker and Ryan to Gammage to see The Lion King. The play wasn't really very good, but we had a great time anyway. I think the boys really enjoyed their time with Nema and Hepa without their parents. They were on their very best behavior. During intermission; however, we got up to walk around and Ryan had a minor melt down. He did not want to leave. As soon as we explained that we were just going to go see the stage and where the band was and that we were not leaving to go home, he was fine--as if nothing had every happened. After the play we went to Sugar Bowl for ice cream sundaes. Wow! This place is big! It's okay Ryan. This is going to be fun.

Courtyard in Bloom

It's springtime with gorgeous weather. I decided to stay home from work today and try to get caught up on a few projects. Believe it or not, I am actually pretty well caught up at work. Since our new courtyard was still a little "unfinished" you came home at Thanksgiving, I thought I'd post a few pictures. It is finally coming together. We can't wait to get the gate and fence completed!

OK, I have been wanting to do this for quite some time... and wanting to post about Thanksgiving... and the boys birthdays... and take down my Christmas tree. Oh wait, I did just do that one the other night! YEAH!

The highlight this year was definitely the bikes that Santa brought. We should have stopped there, but instead we had 6 more hours of gift opening that day. OK, it was a lot and maybe I shouldn't have wrapped up belts, underwear and socks, but I really didn't think we were going to have that much. Boy did Santa prove me wrong!

The Happiest Place on Earth

We just got home from a great trip to Disney World with Nema and Hepa. We spent 4 days roaming all the different parks. The kids LOVED the characters and even some of the rides. Here are Scott and I before we took the plunge on Everest in Animal Kingdom. There is Everest in its glory and it seems Nema and Scott can hardly wait to go on the ride!!

Garrett loves that one of the characters has the same hair do as himself.

We are all ready to have some serious fun in the Magic Kingdom.

Riley is ready to go on the kiddie roller coaster at Goofy Barn.

She claims that this is her favorite ride and wants to go again. However, I will let you be the judge of that. When you watch the clip just focus on Riley.

Thank you for such a great trip Nema and Hepa. I know that this will at least be memorable for Riley. Garrett made progress and I am thrilled about that! Scott and I couldn't have had a better family vacation. (officially our first real family vacation since being married).

After a long day of getting ready for Christmas really works up a thirst apparently. We had just gotten home from shopping, and I went right to the kitchen to prepare lunch. Garrett went right up the stairs and disappeared. I kept calling his name but he never came and I couldn't hear a noise. After about 5 min of calling I went up to try and find him. I was about to go in the play room but saw Riley's bathroom light on. So I went there thinking he was probably loading the toilet with toilet paper. (a fun game actually) This is what I found instead!!! I had to turn and leave to go get the camera before I lost it. It was so hard to keep a straight face once he knew he was busted!!

How can you get mad at that face!!!! Oh how I got a laugh out of his ingenuity.

Korean Spa

**Disclaimer: The following post was written by Missy for her blog. Why do more work when someone else has already done it for you?**

I went to a Korean Spa on Saturday and spent over THREE hours relaxing. Evern been to one? It's amazing. Allow me to explain...You pay $35 and you have access to Poultice Rooms, Steam baths, Saunas, Bade pools and herb themed public baths. Amazing. Did I mention that $35 lets you stay in the spa for 24 hours? No joke.

What's a poultice room, you may wonder. I'm not exactly sure except they generate radiant heat from natural earth elements such as hot red clay, gems, and germanium. Benefits include not only the benificial effects of thermotherapy, but also infrared rays, which are associated with removel of harmful toxins from the body. A poultice room looks like this:

This particular spa had 7 different rooms including the Amethyst Gem room, the Red Clay room, the Ice room, the Oak Wood Charcoal room, the Red Clay Ball room (my favorite becuase it was a well-being room with the effect of acupressure and massage using hot red clays balls as well as yellow jade), the Blue Onyx room and the Salt room. In addition to the Poultice rooms, I was able to enjoy the saunas, steam baths and Bade Pools, though these rooms were not unisex as you are required to be nude (sweet!). There were two saunas, a dry sauna and a steam sauna. Furthermore, there was an ice bath and two herbal infused baths: rose and aloe. The Bade Pool was a water massage therapy center that had different stations that concentrated on different areas of your body. Here is an outline of the room (again, nudity required) and the massage techniques:

If you like to be pampered, if you like to be nude, and if you like to walk away feeling like you are going to fall asleep on your drive home, then head out the Korean Day Spa nearest you. It was a blast!

***This is actually the second one I've (Anne) been too. A couple of my friends and I went to one in New York over Labor Day. One word: AMAZING!***

The Sorrentini Way

Not much to report from Sorrento. It was much better than Rome, but
we could tell that it would have been amazing if the weather was
better. Maybe next time...

A few highlights:
- Met the nicest italian girl on the train to Naples. She made sure we
got to the right train when we had to switch trains unexpectantly
after ours broke down.
- Learned how mozzerella cheese is made from a quaint Italian family
- Took a scary drive up to Positano. Not quite sure how the bus didn't
drive off the cliff
- Did some shopping - again
- Slept in, relaxed, walked around, took lots of pictures that didn't
turn out so well - we need Marnee here!
- was amazed at how many Italians were concerned with the election &
our reactions
- learned the creative ways that Europeans are sustainable.
- Took a drive to Casserta with our private driver for the morning.
- Walked through the Poyal Palace of Casserta pretty much on our own -
kind of creepy! We were amazed at how negleted everything seemed. The
place seemed very dirty, there was writing on the statues outside, &
the gardens were not groomed. It was unbelievable to think of what it
would have been like when royalty lived there though. Just unreal.

It was then onto the train to Florence. So far Florence is our
favorite part of the trip. We will update you on this part of the trip
when we get back.

When in Rome

1. Bring comfortable walking shoes
2. Always have an umbrella. You never know when an enormous swarm of
birds is going to invade the city and will decide you are a great
toilet.
3. Take motion sickness pills before getting in a taxi or shuttle. And
avoid crossing ANY streets without saying a prayer.
4. Bring extra room in your suitcase for the fantastic shopping.
5. Go to church. At least half of the congregation are visitors. They
have wireless headsets with a translator for us non-Italians.
6. Meet up with friends from home. It's great to meet in a foreign
country for a day when you haven't seen each other in a few months.
7. Check out the random piazzas. They are definitely worth the extra
walking.
8. Take a drive along the outside of the city.
9. Remember to eat. It's surprisingly hard thing to do when you are on
the go so much.

And the most important:
10. Don't spend much time there. It's dirty, crowded, and over-hyped.
Spend time in other areas of Italy... like Sorrento.

Parker says, "We're making a cafe." "Oh really? It looks great. What is a cafe?" Parker says, "Well, you know, it's kind of like a little restaurant."

OK, so I'm making this easy, so it will get done. Here are Noelle's 7 interesting things, Marnee style.

I love to pick scabs and zits...Start out with the gross one I know! Yup! Me too!
I have never gotten a speeding ticket Wish I could say that, but I have been ticket free for over 2 years now, so that's a relief!
I had the chicken pox when i was 9. My fever was 106 and i was hallucinating. I was hospitalized and given a spinal tap(OUCH) The Dr. thought I may have had pox on my brain. I had Kate without an epidural. Sorry... that's the best I can do to compete on this one!
Althoug it took a while to admit....shhh! I actually like my minvan! Although I still hate to admit it, I WANT a minivan!
People think I am calm. Im not so much and I really don't like that about me. I'm anything but calm. I don't think I know how to be calm. And no one has ever mistaken me for being calm. But surprisingly to all who know me from childhood, and more surprisingly to those who know Mike too... I'm the more patient one with the kids. Can you believe that?
I love having pictures taken, I even have some great ones. You wouldn't know it cause i have a HUGE problem with getting things framed. I LOVE taking pictures. But, this isn't something surprising. Hmmm... I've done several different shoots with my own kids this year, even cleared a way for them, but still have not gone through the images to get anything printed. And the wall of "love" only has Parker and Ryan on it. It took me until Ryan was 10 months old to add him. Kate is 13 months old... hmmm... she hasn't noticed yet!
I absolutly love eating brussel sprouts. I have some growing in the garden right now. I prefer chocolate chip cookies. I often sneak a cookie for breakfast and lunch while giving the 'only eat healthy foods' lecture to the kids. Mom... I think I learned this from you! And not surprisingly, I think Parker is learning this from both of us. Sorry Becca... you have a lot of work to do with us!

Felines

Randomness

It's been awhile and I have a bunch of random pictures to post.

Just hanging out on movie night. They aren't addicted to TV, right?!?!?! Why can't I get them to hold this still when I'm talking to them. Maybe I need to put a TV on my head.

I would love to say that one day they will be embarrassed about this picture, but somehow I am thinking they are going to love it and be proud. Why?

Mr. Cool Dude. I love this time of year! It is so nice outside. We have really enjoyed our walks (however, they have now evolved into bike rides, kiddie style.)

Yes, Parker, Life is Good. Especially when you are on your way to Sugar Bowl with Nema. I couldn't pass up this photo opp! I've got to remember this place for future engagement pics.

Ryan's first trip to the dentist. He was sooooo good during the scrapping, but did not like the cleaning part. Odd. Yes, but we already knew that about this child. I asked him to say "cheese". Guess, this is "cheese" dentist style!

We went to the zoo over Fall Break with some friends I used to work with at Marriott (and their daughters.) It was a nice day, but still a tad warm to spend all day at the zoo. Kate was loving it, though. FREEDOM!
We also hit the train park over fall break with a few friends from church. Here's Parker with Jackson and Brandon.

We went to Schnepf Farms last week with the Richards. It's one of my favorite places to go this time of year. The boys LOVE it, and this year we had the best weather ever! Only a high of 75! They both loved the rides and rollercoasters, but also just running around. Thanks Nema and Hepa for keeping Kate so we could run wild!

We ran into some old friends, Nathan and Kerry Davis and were able to spend the rest of the day with them. This is their boy, Trenton. He's Parker's age. Jackson is sitting on the end.

This was by far Parker's favorite "ride". I suppose it is a ride when you get to sit back and enjoy the off-road experience while mom (OK, DAD), pedals like crazy to get us through the obstacle course.

OK... So I still have a bunch of pics from the party to edit and put online, but I did have to share this milestone ASAP.

We made it past the 1-year mark before any bumps, cuts, bruises to the face. (At least any that I remember.... but she's a third child, so this could be a little foggy.)

Luckily, she recovers quickly and is not quite the drama queen like her older brother.

Although, I do want to ask, what is it with my kids and getting cut up on their birthdays? Anyone remember this? Mom?!?!?!

Why I Shouldn't Have Gotten A Puppy

Just to name a few reasons...

I had to wait 3 days for her to learn to go to the door when she needed to go potty.
I had to wait a week for her to not have a single accident in the house for 3 days straight.
She gets way too excited when I get home and just won't leave me alone.
It took her 2 nights to not whine at all in her crate at night.
EVERY time I make a kissing noise when I'm holding her, she touches her nose to my lips.
She already does tricks like roll over, dance, jump and didn't give me a chance to train her to do them.
She only weights 2.2 lbs.
It is impossible to go on a walk with her because everyone stops us (on foot and in cars) to stare and comment on how cute she is.
She forces me to get out of bed in the morning so I can actually get to work on time (well, kinda).
She has no stranger anxiety and makes everyone feel like they are her favorite person in the world.

Annoying, huh? I really should have thought about this decision more. It is way to hard to raise a puppy this difficult. Its a good thing I have the wonderful support/help of her Aunt Jen and Aunt Missy or I would be going crazy right now! ;-)

She is tiny but she has an amazing personality. She will probably grow to be about 6-8 lbs. She's "chocolate" which I guess is very rare. She's got beautiful dark brown and golden hair.

I'm getting a puppy! I haven't met her yet, but she's reserved and she's mine. I have appointment this weekend to meet her and take her home if I want her. I can't imagine that I won't want her. She is adorable!I'll post more pictures when I get her. I'm sure they will be better than this one with the cupcake. In case you are wondering - she is a yorkie poo (a yorkie poodle mix).

I have a couple ideas for names, but I'll take any ideas you have. Just post them in the comments. I'm going for a "human" name that is short and cute. Maybe something like Ella or Abby. I'm not set on any of the names so suggest away!

Okay so this might take some time as far as getting caught up. We are in our new home and finally have a new address. 17406 Guadalupe trail Ct. Humble TX 77346
We closed on our house the 15th of August and have had the pleasure of moving in ever since. Thankfully I have had help this time around. Jane has been here helping me unload and organize. She has also been finishing up the bedding she made for Riley's new room! I will post pictures of that when her room is finished. (hopefully this week). Also, Becca has been over to help paint and do what is needed as well. Friends from church have been kind enough to take Riley a couple times just so I could have a couple of hours to get some work done! Thank you to all that have helped.
With that said the pics I am going to post are not of the house. Not yet anyway. Sorry, I need to take some new ones tomorrow in the morning. It is too late and dark to do justice. (Plus I would like to finish painting one wall).
Garrett is really into doing what ever Riley is doing. Might it be dancing like a ballerina or having pretty hair. He will even join her in time out so they are both not alone! Garrett is truly the best "hombre" and still continues to make others smile. I will say that as hard as I laughed at the turquoise leotard, my favorite pic is his Elton John impersonation!! Gotta love the cheesy grin!! I promise now that I have found my USB cord more pics are on the way!

Wahoo! 3 successes and only 1 accident! He is sooooo proud of himself. Plus, he is the happiest, most hyper kid ever since he gets to drink all the “spicy juice” he wants. (aka root beer).

Oh, and he is becoming quite the artist. Drives Parker crazy - he is quite abstract in his painting choices - and loves to mix his own colors. Which apparently drives Parker insane (and probably his Aunt Anne who doesn't like anything to TOUCH or MIX!)

Ready or Not...

So, the boys were supposed to be taking a nap this afternoon. There was too much laughing and jumping going on to even come close to "resting", but they weren't fighting and no one was crying, so I just left it alone. After about 20 minutes of this, I decided to see what was going on. Sure enough, happiness=trouble. They were using the floor fan to "launch" their cars into the air like rocket ships. Luckily, the cars (and fingers) were too big to fit through the slats to properly be launched, and they were perfectly happy with the air helping lift off, but I knew that it could get dangerous quickly. Surprisingly, there were no fights when I took the fan away, and they continued to play. I just peeked back in, and they were playing hide and seek, waldo style with the cars. One car would count while the other car was being hidden amongst the very large pile of cars. Here's Ryan's version... "2..3..5..9...8..9... here I come..."

Well, the too good to be true afternoon has now ended in a huge pile of dumped out toys and a fight over something. Both are crying, and I am hiding out here on the computer. At least we had a small moment of sibling fun that didn't involve some sort of trouble!

Anniversary #33 - Continued

On Tuesday, August 5th, we did something most people travel from far away parts of the world and plan for for decades to go see. We have lived in Arizona for 24 years (only 3 hours away) and finally made the journey to see the Grand Canyon. Why did we wait so long? It really is an awe inspiring sight. I guess we thought it was too far away to just look at a big hole in the ground or that it would be too hot in the summer when it was more convenient to go. We were wrong on both accounts. The weather was beautiful and the sight was gorgeous and there was really a lot to see and do. We went on a Ranger tour to learn about the geography of the canyon and while listening to the ranger, we were lucky to see several California Condors soaring overhead - seemingly close enough to reach out and touch. The incredible thing about that was that we heard numerous people in the park - Rangers included saying how rare an experience that was. Even the ranger talks about the Condors rarely have sightings let alone an hours worth of several soaring birds. There are only about 300 living in the world and we saw 3-5 of them during our visit. The condors are huge birds. They have a wing span of about 9 feet.

Wow - 33 years - some might say we must be getting old. I say we are just getting better! Dad and I had a great time on our last minute get away to Sedona. In spite of the fact that out hotel didn't really turn out to be the "romantic" getaway that I had planned. I expected the romantic french provincial style of L'Auberge http://www.lauberge.com/ and we ended up with the tacky southwest style of Los Abrigados http://www.losabrigados.com/ . Oh well - it's all about who you are with - right!?

We didn't spend much time at the hotel so it really didn't matter. On Monday we drove to Meteor Crater. Basically a big hole in the ground. It was actually quite interesting to hear about how the hole was made. It is actually large enough to fit 20 football fields on the bottom and seat over 2 million people around the arena. It is 550 feet deep. The meteor was the size of 1/2 a football field and hit at ground at a speed equivalent to an airplane flying from New York to Los Angeles in about 2 minutes. (Or so they say - I don't think anyone was around to actually record any of this information!)

We had a nice guided tour of the rim and then drove to Winslow, Arizona (20 miles away) so we could say we'd been there and took pictures -as the song says - "standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona with a good friend of mine."

Of, by the way - the green thing above is the Geiko gecko in the flesh! It greeted us as we started the tour of the crater.

This weekend, I was all set and excited to join a large group of random people from the area on an "All Out Camp Out" at Rohobeth Beach, DE. There was going to be smores, Rock Band, socializing, and then to top it off - slip'n'slide into the ocean! Unfortunately, my body decided to remind me that it has more control over my life than I do. Thursday and Friday I ended up having some pretty strange side effects from my new medication - everything from minor anxiety and depression to blurred vision, dizziness and rapid, pounding heartbeats. I figured it wasn't a very good idea to venture out on a camping/beach trip in that condition.

Luckily, I have a fantastic roommate who decided to spend the weekend with me instead of going camping. I felt much better on Saturday so we decided to be adventurous. We headed out to Eastern Market to eat a fabulous breakfast and check out the flea market/street vendors. We both spent more money than we had planned but got some great stuff! Later, Amanda and Ben joined us at the pool and then a big group of "non-campers" attended a rodeo out in Loudon County. It definitely wasn't a western rodeo, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Although it wasn't even close to what I had planned for the weekend, it ended up being a great weekend!

Nostalgic

To say I am nostalgic is a gross understatement. I have a hard time getting rid of ANYTHING that has any memories or meaning attached to them. I still have all of my homecoming/prom dresses from high school that Mom made for me. I can't fit into most of them and couldn't even wear them if I could, but I just can't seem to throw them out. I even have files overflowing with notes, cards, and emails from friends and family.

Mom gave this teddy bear to me the day she helped me move into my dorm room freshman year at BYU. It has sat on my bed every day since then (when I make my bed, of coures).

This is a case that the gold Olympic medals were encased in. They made a bunch of extras (not sure why). Myke and I stumbled upon them one day after the Olympics and snatched a couple for ourselves before they were thrown out.

I loved this record when I was younger. I thought it was so unique and beautiful. I tried to keep such good care of it. Ironically, it got warped in the car on the way up to BYU. When I was trying to fix it, it cracked. The record has been through a lot, but every time I look at it, I can remember how happy it made me to pull it out of my closet as a little girl.

Whenever I went over to Baba & Ben's I loved looking at their porcelain flowers. Luckily, I talked Mom into giving one of them to me after Baba died. The beauty and elegance of this flower reminds me of Baba.

Marnee & Mike made superlatives for Steve, Mckay, & I when we graduated. Although it hasn't entirely come true, it isn't because I haven't tried!

The rocking chair. It isn't my style, I don't really like the fabric on it, and it is kind of falling apart so you can't sit on it, but it represents so much more! There are memories locked in this chair that I'm sure no one but the chair knows.

My furniture. Its fun to think that this furniture was Mom's, Marnee's, and then mine. Hopefully, one day it will be my daughters.

Heather made this pillow for me out of left over material and stuffing when she, Baba, Mom, and I went up to a cabin one weekend in high school. Its lumpy, not square, and is falling apart, but I still cuddle with it every night.

Dad brought this home for me after one of his business trips. I can't remember where he went or how old I was when I got it but I love how it reminds me that he was thinking about me while he was away.

Some think I hang this on my wall to remind myself how to spell my name and when my birthday is. That's only partically true.

Beach Babes

New Look (Again)

Sorry Anne! I really messed things up. I was having a terrible time on my mac viewing the pages. I've asked a few people and it is a safari thing. There is something I could have done and tried it out, but I really couldn't get into it to change it correctly, and then I accidently changed the template and lost it all! I'm sorry!!!! I tried to fix it up as best as I could, but could not figure out how to do the background pic, only the header one. Anyway. I want to add pics of everyone, not just the grandkids since it is about all of us, but hey... that's really all I have right now. (Besides it all looked so good in the matching colors!)

So, anyway, please feel free to change it back. I'm sure it was a lot of work.

Fun Times

Looks like Kate is happy and content playing in the water or driving a car; whereas Garrett will take the easy life and just take a nap out in the pool. Maybe he is trying to work on his tan and catch up with Ryan. I'd love to trade you more Garrett pics Sheesh if you have any better pics of the kids on the waterfall. These are just the ones my mom got with the point and shoot. They are pretty blurry. You might have some better ones on your camera.

Snake!

So, we just got back from cleaning out the nursery closet at church! Whew! That was a mess. Anyway, the whole time at church Parker kept saying, we need to hurry before the snakes get us! They come out at night! When we were leaving, he ran down the hall to get a drink, and came running back... SNAKES!!!! AHHHH! RUN!!!! I seriously doubt there were snakes, but we were on our way out anyway.

Anyway, we pulled into the driveway, and sure enough, a snake was going across the drive. Mike had already opened the garage door, quickly put the car in park, ran out and chopped off the head of the snake (and then chopped it again since it continued to move.) Needless to say, the kids wanted to see the snake, but we told them it was probably dangerous and daddy had to take care of it so it wouldn't hurt us.

Well, after we got the kids to bed we went back with flashlights to find our "deadly" snake was really this:

"The common Kingsnake is a nonvenomous member of the “harmless” Colubrid family which also includes such common snakes as Garter snakes, Gopher snakes, and Whip snakes.

The Kingsnake derives its name from its habit of eating other snakes. It is most famous for eating rattlesnakes and copperheads and for being immune to viper venom. The Kingsnake is actually a diet generalist and will eat, small rodents, snakes, lizards, birds and their eggs and even turtles and frogs. It is usually active in the morning and late afternoon but in extremely hot conditions will be found abroad at night. The Kingsnake locates and identifies its prey at night by using its sense of smell. If the prey item is a rattlesnake, the Kingsnake, being a constrictor, will bite the snake and immediately throw several coils around it and constrict it until it is disabled and exhausted and it will then be eaten, whether still alive or dead."

I can't stand the thought of a snake on my property, but if it was on its way to hunt down rattlesnakes, than we should have let it be. I hope we didn't stop it before it got the rattlesnake it was looking for!

I was hoping the boys' obsession with cars and trains would last forever, but now they are both so intrigued by snakes. Ryan's favorite thing to say is "oh, mom, snake hole!" Any time we see a hole in the ground. Parker also has a new favorite show: Bindi the Jungle Girl. Steve Erwin's girl is now taking the place of the crocodile hunter. She has done a few episodes on snakes. Oh boy! I'm not ready for this obsession!

Narcoleptic in Northern Virginia

Yup. That's right. I've been diagnosed with narcolepsy. Its a minor form of the disease and I am now going to take medication each day to help counteract the symptoms. Not that I'm excited that I have narcolespy but I'm excited that I finally know what it is and there is a chance that I can fix the problem!

We are having a great time in Pine Top! Lots of hiking, lots of exploring, and the ONE town activity - bowling! Riley is the champ.... she is definitely a pro at the bowling, but RYAN was a close second. He had soooo much fun. What a Weekend!

A big thanks to Parker, Ryan and Kate for the fun weekend with Nema and Hepa. The boys enjoyed the pool. Ryan especially liked to swim back and forth across the hot tub. He is doing very good - by the end of the summer, I'm sure he will be able to swim throughout the entire pool. Riley and Garrett, we can't wait for you to swim with us! After the swim, we had a "rest time." A rare moment where Ryan fell asleep and Hepa is smiling! I guess he wore himself out with all that swimming.

We then went to the train park for ice cream, a train ride, a carousel ride, and playing on the playground. We think the boys had a good time, but we're not really sure about Kate. Maybe next time, Kate!

Fun filled weeks

We've had a fun filled few weeks.

Evan attended his 1st Houston Astros Game. Although he dressed for his true #1 team.A trip to Mass was the 1st time leaving the state of TX for Evan.
He did really well; we have no complaints.
He scared grandma to death when he showed her his Moser balancing trick.
We went and got pedicures before the wedding. He did fairly well, and I must say looked mighty cute, for his attendance at the wedding.

Just in case you were wondering, flip flops float... and the waves/currents going into the beach are stronger than those going out. And it takes approximately 1 bottle feeding for Kate for a flip flop to travel the from the FAR END of the pier up to the crashing waves, into the hands of the ONLY boogie boarder in the water that day.

Kate's First Pool Time

She LOVED the water! We weren't really surprised, as she thinks the bath is too fun... especially when she gets to take a bath with the boys and everyone is splashing. She loved hanging out in her float and being entertained by Parker who kept swimming under her to play "peek-a-boo" and Ryan who kept giving her kisses and teaching her how to splash. When it gets warmer, we'll have to see if she likes Nema and Hepa's waterfall and Uncle Mike's slide. Hmmm... maybe too young, but I somewhat remember the boys doing it their first summer and they were much younger. We'll see if Daddy is a little more cautious with his little girl.

This little beach bum was fascinated with the water. (surprise, surprise?) He thought it was so fun that the waves would crash over the rock. He also thought it was hillarious that he could chase the waves and run around the rocks while the waves were out... but he had to be fast or else the waves would get him! Parker and Ryan both had a blast running around the rock. OK... it wasn't this rock, but one about 1/2 the size just out of the picture that they did it.

Ryan's favorite sayings since we have been home have been, "Go to the car wash" (since I said it 1000 times after we went to the beach 3 days and had a car FULL of sand), and "Ry Ry go to the beach." We might just need to go back some time this summer. He is actually a really fun kid to be around on the beach! :)

Philly Phun

Our ward had an activity up in Philly last weekend. It was supposed to be an "Amazing Race" with the single's ward up in Philly. It turned into more of a day playing tourist and taking crazy pictures. Philly kind of smells, but it was fun nonetheless! There is this great plaza with huge game pieces that provided some entertainment for a while.

I thought I'd share some photos from my birthday. My wonderful friends threw an amazing party for me. It was cocktail dress, with mocktails, and even cocktail waitresses. It was a combined party for one of my friends and I who share a birthday. We socialized, ate lots of good food, and danced the night away!

They cleared out all of our furniture in the house and created the perfect atmosphere for a cocktail/dance party.

Great Wolf Lodge

With Scott having stand down, we decided to have a mini vacation. We headed down to the new Great Wolf Lodge in Chehalis, WA. It is an indoor waterpark that was do much fun!! The kids loved the water slides (kid friendly of course) and the 1000 gallons of water that is dumped every 5 mintues or so. Riley also really enjoyed the wave pool and loved to ride the waves by herself in her own tube. There is one outside of Dallas if anyone wants to go sometime!!

Mike was talking about getting on the treadmill today and needing to get back in shape before we head out to the beach in two weeks. Parker says, "Dad, before you get on the treadmill to exercise, I need to get on and do my exercise. I need a new shape too. "

Today Evan got a Jr. Firefighter sticker when the firemen came to check things out because our CO2 detector went off. Luckily it was a false alarm. But it sure was fun to seen the big fire truck and get a sticker.
