It's been a pretty long, busy week for me. It all started last weekend. My friends, Laura and Dan, were married on Friday. I woke up that morning with the worst allergies. My eyes were constantly watering and I couldn't breathe! Unfortunately, I couldn't let it stop me. I had to help organize things at the reception center and put together all of the centerpieces. Luckily, I started feeling better once I got busy and everything went great! The location was amazing - it is called "Top of the Town" and had a view of downtown DC.

Saturday night was the Circus. A bunch of my friends and I headed downtown to Barnum & Bailey's Circus. It was great! It's always nice to act like a kid again. It was interesting, though, to be at an event that is geared towards kids when I was the youngest one in our group. I loved the acrobats though! I think that is amazing no matter how old you are!
I finally thought I was beginning to feel better by Tuesday which was a relief because I had my certification test (for the CFM - Certified Facility Manager) that day. It all started out great but about an hour into the test (it took me about 5.5 hours), I started coughing like crazy. I couldn't bring any water into the center so I had to sign out/in every 15 minutes to get a drink and blow my nose! It was great. Unfortunately, I have no idea how I did and won't know for over a month.
By Thursday, I finally felt better physically, but the stress just got worse. Our fridge has been broken for over a week and I found out that we still wouldn't have one for another week, and I found out that both of my roommates are moving out this summer and the roommate search started again....
But, then it all got better! Thursday night I had a reception for an conference I was attending on Friday. We also did a night tour of the District. I haven't done that for awhile and it was nice to be with a bunch of associates and just relax (plus they were all getting drunk, so it was entertaining). Friday was a leadership training for my professional association (IFMA). It was a great day, and I got some great ideas for leadership both professionally and personally. Then the rest of the weekend was Conference!
We had a brunch at our house this morning and even with the lack of a fridge (and a way to keep food cold), we totally pulled it off! We fed close to 20 people (we had breakfast casserole, pull aparts, and food that others brought). Good food, good friends, and great conference! Definitely a turn around for the week. And now, I am leaving tomorrow morning for Denver (and I got upgraded to First Class!).
My favorite talks were probably Saturday morning's. Although this post was a lot of complaining, I loved the talks that focused on not complaining, backbiting, gossiping, etc. I am going to focus on making sure I use words to uplift and lighten others loads. What were your favorite conference talks?
***I know I have yet to update everyone on my trip to NYC two weeks ago, but that will come in a future post I promise!

Becca and I just got back from our house hunting trip. We had great weather (high 60s & low 70s), and were amazed at how many trees were in Northeast Houston. Becca even commented that one neighborhood almost made her feel clausterphobic. And this came from Miss New England!

You may have heard that we were going to buy a resale home. We decided after seeing some pet urine stains on the carpet, etc. to build our own house. We found that we could build a brand new house for cheaper than the owners would be willing sell their house to us. So, we are building pretty much the same house one block away from the other house. I think everyone has seen the pictures of the resale house we were going to buy, but here are some more pictures from that house which will be quite similar to the one we are building.

The house will be done in August. Ironically, the road name is Salt River Valley Ln (which is funny since we thought we would be moving to the Phoenix Valley) in Humble, TX (pronounced "Um-bol" because nothing in Texas is humble.)

The Boys

Mommy's Milkshake, but sure, I'll share. I didn't really want ANY...

Reeces's Replacement... Ryan loved the goats at the zoo... He gave them lots of hugs and kisses (now I am sure you are all ready for your hug and kiss from him!)

This kid has no fear, and luckily, neither did the goats.

Who knows? He's his father's son. Ever since Hepa and Nema gave him a popsicle a couple weeks ago, he has been into licking everything...

He thinks he is so funny. Which, some of the time, he actually is.

Mommy's little helper! We tore out our laundry room cabinets this weekend. Parker was so proud that he worked so hard. He painted, built cabinets, and mopped the floors. "It was hard work." He did great and only ended up with a little green on his nose!

He's trouble. And he knows what he wants.

Parker, aka The New and Improved Steve Irwin, has discovered that you can pet a sting ray and not die. He was a "little scared at first", but was "brave at the end" and loved petting the sting rays in a new exhibit at the Phoenix Zoo.

Potty Training Triumphs

I'm not sure if we are excited or worried... but potty training is going well. Parker finally decided that he wanted to be a big boy, and now he has gone almost two weeks of pooping in the toilet. However, big boys don't have to take naps... so at the same time, he has given up on naps. I'm not sure if I was really ready for this milestone! Changing diapers may not be that bad of a thing.... The new adventure is he is getting better at night as well. The last two nights he has woken up dry, but that is after he comes in 1-2 times during the night to wake us up to go with him to the potty. Between Parker and Ryan, staying up late to get work done, and this new baby not letting me fall asleep easily, it's a wonder if my eyes even close at night. How many more years until I can sleep again? Oh the joys.

The before

I forgot to include the before for those of you who haven't seen my kitchen in person before (and for those of you who forgot what it looked like!

And I did end up having a picture of my light fixture.

And for those of you who are thinking, 'Wow, it looks so light and fluffy - how fun!"

Yes, these are tire tracks from my car - and there is about 4 inches of ice underneath the tire track.

And to get this small amount of ICE shoveled off my steps so my friends and roommate wouldn't die, I spent about an hour shoveling.

But, at least once you come inside, you'll see that my cabinets are finally done! I still haven't put hardware on, but I have to convince my landlord to pay for that first. I think they turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself . . .

And here is my lovely kitchen table . . .

Now all I need are visitors to see it in person! I also have my new light fixture, but no picture yet. That will come later.

Backyard Visitors

It appears that not only family and friends find our backyard inviting. Although from the looks of the yard right now, I think it is only the wild animals that would dare go there.
